Publishing Board / WRITING MODS.
« Last post by tranquillite on August 16, 2013, 08:19:18 pm »
The staff are unofficial writing mods, but the writing mods, like, the official wmods show great examples of writing technique. A great story, famous or not on the site, might get you offered a job as a writing mod.

Feel free to shoot these mods PMs asking them to edit your story. Most will happily do that. Others, over time, may have threads for these, and will clearly state that you must go to that thread and post your story there to get edited. Respect that. Do not pester the same wmod over and over for different stories. Try to rotate wmods. There might be one that you will really click with.

Do NOT ask for the wmods to be your "personal editor" where they edit your stories first, whenever you want. It's unfair to ask them. They will offer.

In the future, I might be adding a special "Editors for Hire" and have a select choice of people do this, but for now, those threads are not allowed.

Publishing Board / WRITING RULES.
« Last post by tranquillite on August 16, 2013, 08:13:01 pm »
Yes, there are rules.

1. No. Sexual. Anything.
No sexual stories. No detailed kissing, no sex scenes. No nothing. It's a PG-13 site.

2. Have basic grammar/spelling/punctuation.
If the regular staff sees a few mistakes, but not a whole bunch, we'll send it over to the Writing Mods, who will edit all the mistakes and send it back to you for your approval. Pretty much an editor. We should not have to revise your entire story, learn that.

3. No posting stories that have not been approved by staff.
You will be warned once. Exceptions for stories that have been "fake" approved by pretending mods.

4. 500 word minimum for publishing time.

5. Do NOT leave your story a WIP for over a month. It will be stripped if you don't put up a notification.

6. Cancellations of stories will be stripped from the boards. If your story has been canceled, nobody wants to read a half-ass story where right when you get to the good part, it's canceled.

7. No submitting separate chapters as different stories. It's confusing, and if you bump all, lets say, ten chapters at once, it simply makes everybody grumpy when all there is on the first page of stories is the same story.

8. No posting the same story twice.

9. Stop. Bumping. A. Dead. Story.
Dead stories are when nobody is commenting on them/reviewing them. It means nobody is interested.

10. Tagging your stories is NOT required. A system for that will be set up later.

Story Idea Discussion / WE ARE NOT RESPONSIBLE IF YOUR IDEA GETS STOLEN.

Sorry, but it's not plagiarism unless if they copy your thread word for word.

So, do not report somebody for that. You have no idea if they actually copied it or not.

Things like this get too touchy in some areas, due to simply frustrated people, so it is not the staff's fault.

Don't be afraid to send a polite PM to the member. If you find them being rude, you get justice, pretty much, if you report the PM. :)

Welcoming Center / Staff List
« Last post by tranquillite on August 16, 2013, 07:50:13 pm »
These are your global staffers. Staff of certain boards will be listed in that board.
Thank you. :)
Do not ask to be a staff member. If we think you deserve it, you earn it.

ADMINISTRATORS-- [head bosses. respect, dawg.]
head admin/creator of the site-- tranquillite
site updater/coder/whatever-- n/a. do not ask to be this.
basic admins-- n/a. probably n/a for a while.

GLOBAL MODS-- [second bosses. respect, my homies. Global Moderatiors, Gmods, Global Mods, they're all the same.]
gmods--
is there a head gmod at the moment? (head gmods become admins next.)-- no.

SITE MODS-- [your basic mods. except they cover the whole site, not the writing area. Often called mods, or simply smods.]
smods--
head smod (they become gmods next)-- none.

WRITING MODS-- [no staff power, except the fact they can accept stories. Call them wmods, whatever you'd like]
wmods--
head wmod (they MIGHT become site mods next. they get to choose, but they lose their writing mod leader status.)--

Will be updated whenever there is a new staff member.

Welcoming Center / Site Rules
« Last post by tranquillite on August 16, 2013, 07:40:05 pm »
I see you've stumbled across the rules.
My name is Tranquillite, the head admin at this site, yet you can call me Quilly.

There are a few (not many) rules, but you still need to read them.

1. No complaining about site changes.
Our staff has everybody in mind, and we do our best to take care of the site. If you find yourself not liking, let's say for example, a theme change, do not PM us. It will immediately get you banned. It is rude.
Even if you say it in the most polite way, you are breaking the rules. :) If you say "I don't like the site changes", that's okay. Just don't PM the staff about it. It absorbs too much time.

2. No. Rudeness/Bullying/Nagging/Baiting/anything considered mean. Period.
We, the staff of SNS, understand the fact that sometimes words might come out as rude, but you shouldn't purposefully be rude. Being rude is unnecessary-- we want everybody to have a comfortable time on the site. If you feel discomforted by a certain player, the best thing to do is PM Tranquillite. It doesn't matter if they're staff or not, you should not feel uncomfortable around anybody.

3. No "mini-modding."
Mini-modding is basically saying "you're breaking the rules, stop." when they could easily be reported. This also includes threatening to report somebody.

4. No. Plagiarism.
Being the head admin, and since this is a story forum, this is the rule I'm the most fearful about. If you copy a story from Fanfiction say it is yours, you must have proof. It would be awesome if you could simply make a credit chapter at the end of the Fanfiction, giving this forum credit to use this, it would be awesome! We plagiarize check every story, so don't expect to past this rule with ease.

5. Be Realistic in your Stories
This should be in the story rules.
Okay, hold up. By realistic, I don't mean eliminating all fantasy aspects of your stories.
No, it just means your character in your story cannot fight a three hundred man army and not get injured, unless if they have a forcefield of some sort. The enemy is usually effective, you know. Take a look at history.

6. Don't claim to be a mod. Anywhere.
This includes accepting stories. Stop, it confuses everybody, you will get banned.

7. No advertising.
You can tell your friends on a chat thread that your leaving, of course, but just make sure of one thing: No redirecting to a new story forum. It's unfair. This includes advertising VIA PM.
You can redirect to an RPG, other site, just not a writing site.

IF YOU EVER FEEL LIKE SOMETHING IS BREAKING THE RULES, BUT IT ISN'T ON THE RULES, PERSONALLY SEND ME A PM.
DO NOT POST ON THE HELP BOARD.
PM TRANQUILLITE. ME.
